Fulton County is in the Northern portion of the State of Georgia. Its unusual shape is largely defined on the West side by the Chattahoochee River, which flows from North Georgia, through Lake Lanier (slightly visible in the upper right corner of the map), and down to Lake Seminole on the Georgia/Florida border.

The area shown as "North Fulton County" is merely a portion of the larger Fulton County and is not a separate county unto itself. However, the area of North Fulton was, in fact, a county known as Milton County until 1932 when it was absorbed into Fulton County.

Until the 1970s, North Fulton was agricultual, rural, farming, and mills. It wouldn't have even been considered a suburb of Atlanta.

However, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the City of Atlanta underwent an amazing transformation, changing from a "smalltown Southern City" to an International Hub and Business Center, bringing in a large population of outsiders - all of whom needed homes and the roads to move them to their offices.

By the 1970s, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport was a hub city for 6 different airlines.

The Perimeter (I-285) encircling the Atlanta Metro area was completed in 1969.

GA-400, which goes through the center of North Fulton, was completed from the northern end of the Perimeter as far north as Rte 92 in North Fulton in 1971.

Everything was now set in place for the explosion of population in North Fulton.

There were only 3 identifiable cities in North Fulton in the early 1970s - Roswell, Alpharetta and Mountain Park.

*Note* The City of Mountain Park in the Westernmost part of North Fulton is strictly residential (around 600 people), architecturally eclectic, and also a designated wildlife refuge. It was incorporate in 1927 and has changed little.

Today, North Fulton consists of Alpharetta, Roswell, Milton (Incorporated in 2006), Johns Creek (Incorporated in 2006), and Mountain Park.

Fortunately, first the roads came (I-285 (The Perimeter), then GA 400). Then the real Estate Developers. Then the population began to explode. Concurrently, the retail, office parks, and office buildings began to appear - all outside the Perimeter.

Similar to what happened in East Cobb County (adjacent to North Fulton), the growth began closest to the Chattahoochee River where huge communities were developed with more than a thousand homes offering suchh amenities as community swimming pools, tennis courts, and community golf courses.

With home prices that were surprisingly low, taxes that were absurdly low (especially compared to the Northeast), larger homes with larger plots of land, outstanding weather, little congestion, and ease of driving to work, North Fulton was not only ideal, it was heaven.

But it grew. As GA-400 continued expansion northward so too did the population.

The best part of the North Fulton  story is that there is still an expansive amount of open land for future development - versus East Cobb which is virtually saturated and moving farther outward.

Also, because of the Internet, thousands of people who normally would have hit the roads to go to work, now work from home.

Downtown areas continue to be renovated with an intent on drawing residents to the downtown areas with restaurants, retail, mom-and-pop shops, and an awesome community feeling.

So, with beautiful new homes, ranging from $100,000s to multi-millions, major name-brand malls, City Parks, City events (like "Taste of Alpharetta" or "Roswell After 5"), Art Festivals, mixed-use developments (like Avalon in Alpharetta), easy access to Lake Lanier and the North Georgia mountains, what could be better?

Oh yeah, although we try to keep the Florida Panhandle Beaches a secret, they're  only 5 hours away - possibly the whitest beaches in the world (without the shells!)
